Wirtschaftswoche magazine :: 04/2007

Coach - one of the ten jobs most in demand in the service industry! The "Jobs with a future" section of Wirtschaftswoche magazine reports on the new helper generation: Coach :: Not every one can handle increasingly complex job demands; frequently changing projects; a wave of firings; ever more new responsibilities and social constellations. The coach offers his help with these issues and is a neutral dialog partner who, together with his coachee (the coached person), aims to reach a jointly agreed goal. This is generally related to maintaining or restoring professional performance. It can be stress reduction; can, however, also mean overcoming inner obstacles to performance. Discussions with these experts are a form of help to self-help. Coaches do not, however, just pick up the pieces. These kinds of consultations are also used to prepare young executives for new positions. The goal in this case is to free up their potential as fast as possible. Both health and private problems play a role in this context. Coaches are often freelancers and are generally paid by companies. Today they are an established tool for the human resources departments of many Dax-listed companies. These companies have usually established a pool of coaches with whom they regularly work.

There are already some thousands of coaches in Germany. A survey of HR bosses in major German corporations by book authors Uwe Böning and Brigitte Fritschle revealed that the vast majority of the interviewees believe that the importance of such one-on-one consultations will increase significantly in coming years.

Preconditions: Professional experience is a must. If possible also in leadership and corporate workflow processes, since an understanding of contexts can otherwise be lacking. Furthermore excellent social competence and pronounced communication skills.

Training: Coach is not a copyrighted title. There are dozens of training programs of varying quality on offer in the internet. Further information regarding such programs is available from the Deutsche Bundesverband Coaching (German Federal Coaching Association) at www.dbvc.de.

Initial salary: varies widely since coaches often work as freelancers at hourly rates. Fees can be anything from 80 Euros per hour to per diem charges of 2,400 Euros and more.

managerSeminare :: Vol. May 2006

E.C.C. was represented as an exhibitor at the Petersberger Trainertage close to Bonn from 31.3. bis 1.4.2006. Numerous interested participants followed the future oriented presentation from the E.C.C. managing director Brigitte Fritschle on the subject „training program as a Business Coach international“.

Excerpts from the article „Training for Trainers“:

Automotive suppliers as role models for Coaches
A consequent customer orientation requires that Coaches think and act increasingly in international terms as enterprises are globalising. „We have to act like automobile suppliers, who move abroad, as soon as there client goes there “, Fritschle marked the way. The E.C.C wants to lead the way as a good example: It has created a internationally aligned Coaching training program, with the second trial starting this year. [...]

The pluralistic approach includes systemic concepts as well as behaviour therapy, client-centered therapy, transaction analysis and concept from other psychological schools. However, at the same time it is shown that coaching is more than reflection.

Especially with the focus on "internationality" and "practice proximity" the E.C.C. wants to distinguish itself from other training institutes. The international focus of the training program is aimed to open new occupation opportunities. The practice proximity is gear towards training the participants to acquire business clients and coach successfully. One learning unit offered is with special focus on “Marketing for Coaches" (customer identification, customer relations, marketing strategy) and one learning unit on "the coach as an entrepreneur" (positioning in the market, economic risks).

News from training and specialized training:Coaching international
Organisational transactions have become more and more international. Therefore, the need for a more international focus in coaching training programs has emerged. It is important for a coach to understand the cultural background of their customers. This ideas was the main element for the consultants and Business-Coaches Brigitte Fritschle and Uwe Boening to establish a new training institute, the European Coaching Company – E.C.C. - located in Frankfurt/Main. The weekend training program "The Professional Business-Coach" starts in October 2005.

The training program is concepated for a time span of 1 1/2 years. The prominent international focus of the weekend training is based on the importance of the cultural perspective on national and organisational level. “We would like to introduce international coaches and advisors with other cultural backgrounds and offer two modules by English native speakers", specifies co-founder Brigitte Fritschle. The idea behind this concept: To allow participants not only to broaden their horizons culturally, but to learn other coaching approaches and methods.

Mental and methodical flexibility plays an important part in the perspective of the E.C.C., because even clients from the same culture can be extremely divers. “For example, how to get a controller, who is not accustomed to reflect, to think about himself?" is an example of a customer type Fritschle gives, which is not easy to coach. Besides topics, such as "the coach as entrepreneurs", "marketing for coaches", main elements are self experience and naturally a vast quantity of coaching theories and practice, with a great emphasis on learning from coaching cases out of every day business experiences. Total amount of costs for a total of 220 training hours: 9,900 €.
